Our 20th Anniversary
Nancy and I celebrated our 20th anniversary on June 6th 2007. We had made reservations for the occasion. We were going to the Grand Canyon. We found out the prior week that Nancy had ovarian cancer. Our vacation was to start on the 6th of June on the 4th of June Nancy was admitted to the hospital to have surgery.

The Surgery was supposed to take two hours it took four hours. Nancy was Put on a gurney and wheeled to the recovery room. On the way they wheeled right past her younger sister who didn’t even recognize her. We later found out she came very close to dying on the operating table.
ReplyDeleteWhen we were finally allowed to visit her in recovery it was almost like watching a scene from “ER”. There were people rushing everywhere trying to stabilize her.
Nancy had been diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer.
ReplyDeleteShe was sedated. Her hands were restrained so she would not pull the tube out of her throat. She couldn’t talk. Some time went by and she started to become more aware. She started moving her index finger on her left hand like she wanted someone to come closer. After some time passed we figured out that her nose itched and she needed someone to scratch it.
ReplyDeleteNancy stayed in recovery for a couple of days. Then she was moved to a private room.
It’s funny the things you remember.
